Adjunct Professor, PhD
Biography:
Dr. Nuyun Li previously served as Deputy Director-General of the Department of Afforestation of the National Forestry Administration, Executive Deputy Director-General (Leading roles of departments or equivalents) of the Climate Office of the National Forestry Administration, and the Founding Secretary-General and Executive Vice Chairperson of the China Green Carbon Foundation. She is currently the Chairperson and Director of the Chinese Institute of Green Carbon.
As a pioneer in China’s forestry response to climate change, Dr. Li led the formulation of national forestry carbon management policies and standards, and directed the development of China’s carbon sink afforestation, measurement, and monitoring systems. She initiated and led the establishment of China’s first public-benefit carbon fund.
Dr. Li organized and implemented the world’s first forestry carbon sink trading project under the Kyoto Protocol framework, as well as China’s first CCER carbon sink project that entered the pilot carbon market. She oversaw the development of four forestry carbon methodology documents officially registered with national authorities, co-founded China’s first independent carbon crediting mechanism—the Green Verified Emission Removal (GVER) standard—and led the creation of the country’s first biodiversity credit mechanism. She has also directed more than 60 carbon neutrality projects nationwide.
Dr. Li has presided over and participated in numerous scientific research projects, winning three ministerial-level awards. She has published nearly 60 academic papers and authored or translated 17 professional books, including the China Carbon Sink series supported by the State Publishing Fund of China.
